HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – State Sen. Kurt Fevella, R-Ewa Beach, Iroquois Point, calls out the Green administration over its enforcement of recent gun violence in West Oahu on Tuesday.
The outspoken lawmaker held a news conference to criticize the governor for not taking sufficient action to crack down on violent crime.
Over the last several months, there have been several high-profile incidents of gun violence throughout the leeward coast.
Fevella says Green needs to be more engaged with community leaders.
“The problem right now is they having a lot of meetings. A lot of task force. We talking to the chief. We are doing all of these great things, but we are doing it in this square building. We need to do it in the community,” Favella said.
The Governor’s office says in a statement that the governor has been working with the mayor, chief of police, and lawmakers at state and city levels:
“The Governor has been working with Representatives Gates and Kila, Councilmember Tupola, the Mayor’s team, the Chief of Police and our state Departments of Defense, Law Enforcement and Land and Natural Resources, tirelessly, to help decrease violence. The extent of Mr. Fevella’s involvement has been a single text message to the Governor, which he forwarded to the Chief of Police within 3 minutes. It is sometimes difficult to work with Mr. Fevella because he often chooses to attack people in the administration or members of the neighborhood board. We wish he showed more aloha for his colleagues. We could get better results that way.”
